Originally a village established by the Marquis of Duero in 1860 to accommodate colonists working in the sugar cane and cotton plantations as well as in the sugar mill, a structure that is still intact today, the population hub is reliant on Marbella Town Council.

With many opulent apartment buildings, golf courses and top-notch beaches, San Pedro de Alcantara is becoming a premier vacation destination while preserving elements of its colonial heritage.
